In this lesson you will learn how much water should we drink every day. Learning Intentions: Explain the benefits of drinking water and making healthy beverage choices. Success Criteria: I can explain the benefits of drinking water and making healthy beverage choices. How much water we should drink? The recommended daily intake of water for children is: 5 to 8 years old: 5 glasses (1 liter) 9 to 12 years old: 7 glasses (1.5 liters) 13 years old and over: 8 to 10 glasses (2 liters). Water is the best choice. Avoid sports drinks, fruit juices, soft drinks and mineral waters since they all contain sugar, which can lead to tooth decay. Children need even more water when they are exercising. You should drink before, during and after physical activity even if they aren’t thirsty. Tips for staying hydrated: -make sure always pack a water bottle. -choose water rather than sugary drinks. -drink before sports game. Activity: You goal is to drink 1L of water per day or more... To start water drinking diary and find out are you drinking enough water look at the attached example. After completing water diary for 3 days send me your results and answers following questions: 1. Why is important to drink water? 2. Why water is better choice then sports drinks, juices or sodas? 3. How much water we should drink every day? Fun facts about drinking water: A person can live about a month without food, but only about a week without water. That makes water more important then eating food....
