Melting and Freezing Chocolate

Grades: Kindergarten
Subjects: Home Learning, Science

Student Instructions

What happens to chocolate when we melt it and we freeze it? Can we find out? What you'll need: Small chocolate pieces of the same size (chocolate bar squares, buttons or chocolate chips are a good idea) A few small plates or kitchen paper Plain biscuits Instructions: 1. Put one piece of chocolate on top of a biscuit on a paper plate and put one on a table top, one in the fridge or freezer and one on a radiator or somewhere warm. 2. Talk to your child about what they think might happen to each biscuit and the chocolate on top? 2. Wait 20 minutes and take a look. Send us a photo 3. Compare your results and ask some of the following questions: In what conditions did the chocolate melt? Which chocolate ad biscuit felt very hard? Which felt the coldest? Did any change shape? What happens to the one that melts if you now put it in the freezer? Use the mic to record your responses. Have fun!
