Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This activity focuses on the r-controlled vowel sound /or/. Students watch a short video that highlights words with the o+r pattern, then practice identifying and sorting words with the /or/ sound through interactive drag-and-drop questions. Teachers should preview the video to note examples and plan brief pronunciation modeling. Prepare word cards (words with and without /or/) for small-group follow-up practice if desired. Use the open-ended Think About It and Show It responses to assess oral language and phonics awareness. High-quality Think About It answers will name a specific word or sound learned (for example, “I learned the OR sound in 'worm'”) and ask a clear question (for example, “Why does 'work' sound different sometimes?”). High-quality Show It responses will demonstrate the OR sound by saying or writing several OR words or by drawing items that name OR words and saying the words aloud. Teachers can mark these as correct if the student correctly produces or identifies the /or/ sound in at least two examples.
