Magnetic Toy Investigation (Magnet Notebook Investigation)

Grades: 5th Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade

Student Instructions

1.1. Play with the magnetic toys. 2. Analyze the toys in this group. Use a paperclip to figure out where the magnets are located in the toys. 3. Think...Do the toys work because like poles are repelling, unlike poles are attracting, magnets are attracting iron or cobalt, or magnetic objects turn into temporary magnets. 4. Pick 2-5 toys that work the same way (like poles repelling, unlike poles, attracting, magnets attracting iron, or magnetic objects turn into temporary magnets. 5. Take photos of the toys. Edit the photos to label the magnets and/or magnetic materials. 6. Take a 5-10 second video of each toy working. 7. Use the App of your choice to create a video to explain how all of the toys in this group work. Use the appropriate vocabulary words. 8. Add to this Activity.
