Addition Error Analysis

Grades: 3rd Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

Using Explain Everything, identify and correct the mistakes in each of the addition problems attached. You should have one slide for each problem. Make sure to follow all the steps below. 1. Save the problem's image file to your iPad and insert it onto a slide in Explain Everything. 2. Solve it correctly using the column addition method. Make sure to keep neat and organized, and show all your work. As you're solving, explain what you're doing and why. 3. Compare your answer to the student's and identify the mistake they made. Think about the proper steps to solving a problem using column addition and your understanding of place value, don't just say "the answer should be 6." Explain what they did wrong when solving. 4. Give a strategy the student could use in the future to make sure they don't make the mistake again. An example has been attached for you to use as a guide on how to explain the error, and for ideas on what can be written for the strategy.
