Student Instructions

In this activity, you will reflect about who you can stand up for or help if they are in need! 1. Read this definition of empathy: Empathy is about feeling what someone else feels and understanding their feelings. Compassion is having an awareness of another’s suffering (empathy) and a willingness to help address it. In other words, compassion is empathy in action. 2. In your circle of compassion, use your label tool to add pictures, emojis, and words to show who you would stand up for or help if they are in need. 3. When you are done, use your rec tool to describe who you put in your circle. This lesson is adapted from our Transformative Learning Alliance (TLA) Everyday Circles cards. Please visit https://teachheart.org/everydaycircles/ to learn more about how you can bring the TLA cards to your classroom to promote a more kind and compassionate classroom culture everyday. Thank you for using this resource!
