Imagery in Poetry

Grades: 3rd Grade
Subjects: English Language Arts, Writing

Student Instructions

Imagery is used by the poet to get the reader to connect to his/her piece. By getting the reader to think about the poem using their senses (sight, smell, taste, touch, and feel), there is a deeper connection to the topic. Imagery makes the reader feel like they are actually in the poem. DIRECTIONS: 1. Read each sentence on page 1 and determine which sense it appeals to. Use the label or pen tool to label each sentence with the correct letter from the bank at the top of the page. 2. On page 2, read each boring phrase and then use the label tool to write a sentence using imagery. 3. Look over your sentences for proper capitalization and punctuation. 4. Double check all answers and press the check when you have finished.
