You need: A deck of cards, (face cards & jokers removed at first - keep them for extension) A pair of dice Small objects to use for each player Set up your cards like the picture. Roll the dice. Move that many cards along the spiral. Add the two numbers together - the number on your dice and the number of the card you land on. For example, if I roll a 4 and land on a 7 card, I add 4 + 7 = 11. Use the to take a picture of your set up and the tool to write some of the numbers you created! Parent Notes: Allow the use of fingers or manipulatives (beans, Barbie shoes, Lego bits, whatever). Encourage “counting on” - starting from the largest number and adding on the smaller number to arrive at an answer. Ask your child if the order in which you add the numbers matters (no). Why? You can change the difficulty by adding or removing cards. Start with 1-5, then add in 6, 7, 8, etc.
