Teacher Notes (not visible to students)
This activity uses a short informational passage about rivers to practice reading fluency and comprehension. Use the reading fluency recording to check each student's reading pace, accuracy, and expression. For small groups, have students take turns reading aloud while others follow along. No special prep is required beyond a device for recording. For the paragraph open-ended question, look for answers that: explain at least two ways rivers help people or animals, use details from the passage, and show clear thinking in 2–4 sentences. For the multimedia task, a high-quality response will show a clear photo, drawing, short video, or voice explanation that names one thing the student will do to help keep rivers clean and shows the student doing or drawing that action.
