Write a historical recount about the development of a famous invention. Historical recounts retell a particular historical event and explain its significance using facts. Where and when was the invention developed? Who developed it? What series of events led to the development of the invention? Why was the development of the invention significant? Plan your writing before you begin. Decide which facts you are going to include. Remember to include: • an orientation – What is the event? When and where did it happen? • a series of events – What was the time sequence of the event? • a conclusion – What is the historical significance of the event? Remember to use: • paragraphs • formal, factual and evaluative language. Remember to check: • spelling and punctuation • sentence structure.
