Numeracy Week 3 Tuesday: Bundling into Tens

Grades: 1st Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

In this lesson you are going to practise bundling ten ones into one group of ten. It is very important that you understand that place value columns can only hold ten. Once you get ten, you bundle them up and put them in the next column. Warm Up: Watch the video and learn how to play Garrity's grab. 1. Use the snail picture as a game board. You can print it out or play on top of your ipad here in Seesaw. You will also need a dice and two counters. 2. Start on the snail's eye. It is zero. Put a counter there. 3. Throw the die and move your counter that many places along the snail's body. 4. After you get to '9', the first counter goes back to zero, and you put your other counter onto '1 ten' 5. Go on moving the first counter along the snail's body and moving the second counter to the next 'ten' every time you get to the end and go from '9' to '0' 6. The game is over when you get to 100! Next lesson preview: Tomorrow we will be learning about place value using special blocks called MAB.
