Magnetic is an object that is attracted to a magnet. Nonmagnetic is an object that is not attracted to a magnet. Hands-on Activity 1. Observe the items at your table. Notice the composition of each material. Composition means what is made of. 2. Make a prediction. Take a picture of the items that you think are magnetic and nonmagnetic on the chart. Upload the photo to slide 1. Record a 20-second summary of your prediction. 3. Test each object. Use the chart to classify the magnetic and nonmagnetic items. Take a picture. Upload to slide 3. Label the magnetic materials. Record a 20-second summary of the four magnetic materials. 4. Record the purpose of the activity. Required Content o Which materials did you predict were magnetic? (labeled picture of predictions) o Which items are magnetic? (photo of objects classified correctly) o Which items are nonmagnetic? (photo of objects classified correctly) o Purpose of the activity/what you learned - Draw a conclusion. What are the only 4 materials on Earth that are magnetic? Use the chart.
