When you are adding a suffix to base words, there are some rules to be aware of that will help you with your spelling. First, when you add a vowel suffix (a suffix BEGINNING with a vowel) to a base word ending in VCe, you drop the e before adding your vowel suffix. Next, if a base word follows the 1-1-1 rule, you must double the final consonant when adding a suffix. Finally, if a base word ends in a Cy, you must change the y to i before adding the suffix.
