Why? This is a strategy that supports conceptual understanding of multiplication. It shows visually how 2 and 3-digit multiplication problems are a series of smaller multiplication problems. I can demonstrate fluency with multiplication facts. (Math 4.1.1.1a) I can multiply multi-digit numbers using multiple strategies. (Math 4.1.1.3)
