Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

Give each group FIVE paper plates and an UNKNOWN number of base 10 cubes. - How do they start distributing the cubes? Group on each plate? One by one?  - Do they change strategies as they go - find the more efficient way? When they can explain their strategies and the answer - REMOVE one plate  - how do they change the number of cubes per plate? Repeat with changing number of plates & cubes (check for understanding) Then assign this activity.
