Fraction Art - Art Inspired by Mark Rothko

Grades: 5th Grade, 4th Grade, 3rd Grade
Subjects: Math, Art

Student Instructions

Let's learn about a new artist, and create a painting inspired by Mark Rothko. Listen to each slide to learn about the work of Mark Rothko. Next, watch the video showing you a new way to create art using crayons and paper! (Note: We are not using pastels for this activity) Using the colors and design of your choice, create a painting that is made out of fractions! For example 1/2 one color, 1/4 another color, and 1/4 another color. When finished, save your masterpiece, then add it to Seesaw. Extra challenge: Can you create a painting that uses 5 different colors, and is divided into at least 6 regions? Use the label tool to label the area (as a fraction) that each color occupies.
