Perpendicular OR Parallel?

Grades: 4th Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

Work with a partner to sort the images into categories: Parallel or Perpendicular. The tricky thing about this sort is that there are LOTS of different ways to look at the images and there are many different reasons why each image could fit in either of the categories! So, the big idea is that there is NOT a right or wrong answer! The goal is to TALK with your partner about WHY you think the image should go in one category or the other. Also, LISTEN to your partner explain his/her reasoning! Ultimately, the image needs to go in ONE category, so figure that out together! After you've done your sort with your buddy, EACH person needs to post a response to this activity! Here's how: 1) Take a photo of your sort. 2) Use the drawing to circle ONE of your images in each cateogry: Parallel and Perpendicular. 3) Use the mic and drawing to explain WHY/HOW that image fits in that category. **REMEMBER: Only talk about ONE image in each category!**
