Great first lesson for K, 1 or 2 on What is Science. We read the book pictured above to launch into this work and do a lesson reviewing vocabulary and explore the science cycle by using a bag of sugar and a bag of salt. We ask -- what is the question/s to explore? How type of experiment can we conduct to gather data and evidence. (hopefully they suggest taste, but also sight, touch, smell and we record what our observations are) The we taste and reason that one bag (say bag A is sugar) and the other is salt. Then we go through C.E.R.: We make a CLAIM, Give our EVIDENCE/DATA and share our REASONING. Fun easy way to review What is Science. As a final summary/assessment this activity will give students (and teachers) insight into their understanding.
